Frequently Asked Questions

How Kitchicon works, what happens with your data, and how Free and Pro differ.

Getting started

  • What is Kitchicon?

Kitchicon is an AI kitchen companion. You pick a meal, cook it step by step, plan the week, and build a shopping list. It uses your tastes. Dietary rules stay as hard filters.

  • How do I create an account?

Open the sign-in page and create an account with your email and a password. We'll send a confirmation email. Click the link, then sign in. Google sign-in is available.

  • Is there a free tier?

Yes. Free covers the daily kitchen work:

    • Companion chat
    • Guided cooking
    • Meal recommendations
    • Meal planning and shopping lists
    • Recipe catalog
    • Recipe and inventory scans
    • Taste profile
    • Shared household inventory and meal plans

Pro adds extra AI tools. The homepage lists both plans.

  • Can I install Kitchicon on my phone or computer?

Yes. Install it from the browser. There is no app store listing.

    • Android or Windows: open Kitchicon in Chrome or Edge, then choose Install App
    • iPhone or iPad: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, then Add

After you sign in, look under App preferences.

Features

  • What can the Kitchen Companion do?

It can suggest a recipe, answer cooking questions, and help with substitutions and timing. Ask about skills or nutrition. Get a quick pick, or answer a few questions and choose from recipe cards.

  • How does guided cooking work?

Start a cooking session from a saved recipe. Kitchicon walks you through ingredients and steps. Ask about technique, timing, or swaps as you cook.

  • Can I plan meals ahead?

Yes. Save recipes to Make Later, then put them on the week. Households share one week schedule on the free tier. AI week-plan suggestions are a Pro feature. You can build a shopping list from those recipes.

  • What is the taste profile?

It stores allergies, dietary restrictions, and foods you dislike. Kitchicon treats those as hard rules and filters conflicting suggestions. Check ingredients yourself. AI and catalog data can miss things.

  • Can I share recipes with others?

Yes. Send recipes to other Kitchicon users. You can set up a public profile so friends see what you cook. Sharing is opt-in.

Privacy & data

  • Who owns my data?

You do. Recipes, taste profile, and account data belong to you. The Privacy Policy at /privacy has the full details.

  • Can I export or delete my account?

Yes. Signed-in users can export data or delete the account from Privacy & data in settings. Deletion removes your profile and the data tied to it.

  • Is my profile public by default?

No. Public profiles, recipe sharing, and social features are opt-in. You pick what others can see.

AI & safety

  • Can I trust AI-generated recipes and advice?

AI can be wrong, incomplete, or a poor fit. Read ingredients, allergens, cook times, and food safety before you cook or eat. Do not use Kitchicon as your only check.

  • How does Kitchicon handle allergies?

Allergies and dietary restrictions in your taste profile are hard rules. They are checked again before recommendations show. Read every ingredient and label yourself. AI and catalog entries can have errors. This is not medical-grade verification. That includes celiac disease.

  • Is this medical or nutritional advice?

Kitchicon is general cooking help. It is not medical advice, nutritional counseling, or a diagnosis. Ask a qualified professional about health-related diet decisions.

  • Are donations the same as Pro?
